Super Talent offers UltraDrive MX SSD

Solid state drives are getting more and more commonplace be they internal or external, and the latest from Super Talent would be the UltraDrive MX that features a new dual-interface, catering for both SATA II and mini-USB connections. This lets you use the drive internally or externally, depending on your need at that point in time. Ideal for notebook upgrade consumers, the UltraDrive MX SSD can be mounted via USB before creating an image of your hard drive contents, before hooking it up internally through SATA for a cloned SSD without mucking around with the settings too much. Read and write speeds stand at 250MB/s and 180MB/s, respectively. Expect the UltraDrive MX to ship from September 1st onwards, where it will come in 60GB, 120GB, 240 and 480GB capacities. DiskGO Mini flash drive for easy portable storage

Toting around huge amounts of data on a flash drive is something most of us take for granted these days, but what if you could do so with a device which is slightly larger than the quarters jingling in your pocket? That’s what happens when you decide to pick up the DiskGO Mini flash drive from EDGE Tech Corp. True to its name, the DiskGO Mini is all of 1.4″ x 1″, with a thickness that is under 0.25″ while tipping the scales at a mere 10% of an ounce. All the above factors combine to make sure you won’t feel a thing in your pocket - good when traveling, but not so good as you run the risk of losing it without realizing so until it is too late. At least a unique sliding USB connector is thrown into the mix for added safety (without worrying about losing the USB cap), with an attached key ring to make sure you carry it with you everywhere. Each purchase also ships with the CryptArchiver Lite software that does its bit in preventing unauthorized use of your DiskGO Mini thanks to government level AES encryption. The 32GB model will retail for $89.95 a pop, although you can always get smaller capacity models. [Press Release]

SD Association has new high-speed performance symbols for SDXC and SDHC

The SD Association recently introduced a couple of new high-speed performance symbols for both SDXC and SDHC memory cards as well as supporting devices, with the former identifying devices with a new “ultra high speed” bus-interface performance while the latter identifies SD memory cards and products that are able to support real-time video recording. Needless to say, these new performance symbols can only be found on SDXC and SDHC products now and down the road. Expect SD Association member companies to start introducing a new range of SD memory cards and devices that bear the new performance symbols in the immediate future.

Samsung 512GB solid state drive relies on toggle-mode DDR NAND flash memory

Samsung has just announced that they will be rolling out a spanking new 512GB solid state drive that will rely on high performance toggle-mode DDR NAND flash memory. Inside, you will find a 30nm-class 32 gigabit chip that entered production in November last year, where the chip can operate at either 3.3V or 1.8V. Basically, that translates to it featuring a higher level of performance without consuming any more juice compared to its predecessors that are 16 gigabit NAND-based SSDs. This new drive is able to hit a maximum sequential read speed of 250MB per second and a 220MB per second sequential write speed when paired with a SATA II interface. Samsung hopes to see these new SSDs hit high-end notebooks when production commences next month. There was no word on pricing information, but it ought to make an appearance before the year is over.
