i-Mos Concept Communication Device

Being unable to move your body or speak is definitely a difficult situation, but if the person is having trouble communicating, the i-Mos concept device might be useful. This device lets the user communicate in Morse code, using the eye movements of the user to figure out what needs to be said. A movement of the eyes to the left or right can be translated into a dot or dash, spelling out the exact message that the user wants to speak. Sentence completion and built-in Morse code learning also makes learning to use this device less of a hassle.

Nokia Design By Community Sketches Appear

If you took part in Nokia’s Design by Community challenge a while back, you’ll know that the company was getting user feedback in order to design the ultimate mobile phone. With the specifications already confirmed a short while ago, Nokia’s designers have been busy at work, and now they’ve released some of the sketches, giving us a pretty good idea of what they think the ultimate concept phone will look like, based on the specifications that users have voted for. Check out the designs for yourself, though there isn’t any promise from Nokia that we′ll see such a device on retail shelves anytime soon.

Aerogenerator X wind turbine to outlast the rest

The Aerogenerator X wind turbine is different from the typical model, where it will feature a set of blades that are mounted on a vertical axis while boasting a far larger turbine. When deployed out at the sea, the Aerogenerator X will feature a blade span of just over 900 feet, which is triple of today’s average turbine where it will crank out ten megawatts of juice which is also triple that of your usual turbine. A coalition of green engineering firms have the vision of turning the Aerogenerator X into an actual prototype by the year 2013, ushering in a new generation of wind turbines.

OOSH Braille Watch For The Visually Impaired

It’s not always easy to tell the time for folks who are visually impaired, but if the OOSH concept watch ever becomes a reality, things will get much easier. The OOSH is really a Braille watch that allows the user to tell the time by touching the face of the watch, so the lack of sight won’t become an issue. If for some reason the user is unable to read Braille, a voice notification system can also be activated in order to have the time read out to them. It’s a pretty simple concept, but one that could be incredibly useful if turned into a reality.

Hitachi Life Microscope Concept

Hitachi is busy showing off a rather interesting little device over at an exhibition in Tokyo, dubbed the Life Microscope concept. This device functions like a juiced-up pedometer that is capable of recording pretty much every movement you make, and the data will be tracked and collected into a piece of software. With the Life Microscope, doctors will be able to know how long you’ve been walking, resting, and even when you’ve been working. It’s quite scary and feels a little Big Brother, but it’s still cool nonetheless.

Toolip Concept Heating Element

Want to know how hot your coffee is, and reheat it to your desired temperature quickly? The Toolip concept should be able to solve your problems, as it’s a handheld heating rod. You’ll be able to use it to determine the temperature of your drink/food, and if that’s not hot enough for you, just set the temperature, and it’ll be able to reheat your drink faster than your regular electric kettle. The element can be removed, allowing you to easily keep it washed and ready to go.

Concept Slot-type Power Outlet

We’ve all gone through the frustration of extension cords not offering us enough power sockets to keep all our devices juiced at the same time, so we’re always dreaming that someone will come up with a perfect design that will keep our devices alive. This Slot-type Power Outlet might be able to help with that, as it doesn’t offer a fixed number of sockets, rather it offers a long slot to allow you to hook up as many power cables as you wish, provided that they don’t block each other out. Granted it looks slightly dangerous, as you might be able to move the plugs around so they short each other out, but it’s still a very interesting design.

Concept: Tiny Printer Base Stations

Tiny Printer Base Stations

Here’s a rather interesting printer concept design. Instead of using the boring old printing machines that we currently own, this design sports four base stations that will also serve as ink cartridges for each of the four (CMYK) printing colors. The base stations can adhere to any surface, and you’ll be able to control the printing area by simple relocation the base stations. When the printing system is activated, the print job will be projected onto the designated area by a laser beam, and the printing process will then begin. It’d be quite cool if we really were to be printing out reports this way in the future, though how we’ll load the paper is another issue.

Koolhaus Concept Helps You Keep Tabs On Your Water Usage

If Tony Stark (Iron Man) were to design his own bathroom, he’d probably come up with a futuristic faucet design like this Koolhaus tap. It allows users to measure and monitor the total water volume used by each bathroom appliance, which will be a good way to educate users to the importance of saving water. With this concept, every appliance in the bathroom will sport its own flow rate device, and will then pass the data of the water usage to the Koolhaus, which will display the water usage information on its built in LCD. If you want more detailed reports, the data can be sent to the user’s computer to help them keep a detailed log and review the past water usage figures.

Washing Box Concept Helps You Keep Your Clothes Clean

Don’t’ like it when your laundry is mixed with other folks′ dirty clothes? If you had the Washing Box concept you wouldn’t have such an issue, as this concept device allows you to load your clothes into it before you leave your room, and then mount the device on an energy stick that will then wash your clothes with steam. A touchscreen display is integrated on the device for easy configuration. Such a concept should be fairly useful for folks who use Laundromats or don’t have a dedicated washing machine at home.
