HexaDesk uses carbon fiber for a light but solid desk

Here’s a desk made of carbon fiber. Its structure and material makes it super-solid, and light… except that there’s a massively heavy piece of glass on top of it. Also, I usually complain about how heavy my desk if only one every couple of years when I move to a new place. Carbon: hot, hexadesk, not so much - except for your wallet. HTC Touch Pro 2 is heading to Sprint

HTC Touch Pro 2 heading to Sprint

Sprint users will finally have a chance to get their hands on one of the best Windows Mobile phone from HTC: the Touch Pro 2. HTC has improved upon its TouchFlo user interface to hide as much of Windows Mobile 6.1 as possible so that users can really enjoy the 3.6″ WVGA (800×480) display. The Touch Pro 2 connects via an EVDO-Rev A connection that can be supplemented by WiFi when available. Sprint will try to market the phone as a cheaper alternative than the iPhone, although the difference in price might not be as attractive as Sprint thinks it is. There are two obvious reason to consider the HTC Touch Pro 2: 1/you want to use Sprint’s network 2/ there’s a keyboard. Check out our iPhone 3GS review too. $350 at Sprint and T-mobile.

Dell Mini 3 versus iPhone photo

Dell Mini 3 versus iPhone photo

You saw it coming and you’ve seen the Dell mini 3 specifications already, but that’s the first time that we see a good front facing picture of the Dell Mini 3 next to an iPhone. We can’t say that Dell did a good job on maximizing the screen size or reducing the bezel thickness, and from what we can tell, the designers did not take the best attributes of the iPhone and the Palm Pre. Some graphic work would also be needed on the set of icons that make it look like a knock off… [via Sina]

Casio Exilim EX-Z280 digital camera

Casio just released the EX-Z280, a 12.1 Megapixel pocket camera that has a 26mm lens and a 4X optical zoom. The optical image stabilizer will help at the long-end of the zoom but the real meat comes from Casio’s new image processor, the Exilim engine 4. It’s a dedicated chip that’s in charge of things related to image processing and analysis. From smile detecting to noise reduction, it touches every aspect of capturing images. By the way, the EX-Z280 also shoots 720p movies. It costs $180.

Nokia N900 Advertising hits and it's cool

Nokia has released a video ad for the Nokia N900 tablet (it’s really a handset, but Nokia insists on calling it a tablet). The video shows how the Maemo user interface works and right now, it looks pretty cool. Of course that’s the point of creating an ad! Now, we will have to see if the device can live up to the hype. From what we can tell, Nokia is going into the right direction by emphasizing the experience rather than the technology. Video in the full post.

Medion Akoya X9613: an overpriced touch PC

an overpriced touch PC

Following in HP’s footsteps, Medion has launched the Akoya 󙌍, a 24″ multi-touch capable PC. It was spotted by newgadgets.de during the Medion launch event. The computer runs Windows 7, which is a little more finger friendly but to be honest there was no real demonstration of why you would like to have this computer hung on your wall, especially for 1500 to 2000 Euros (I don′t even dare converting into dollars). For the curious, there’s Blu-Ray, an NVIDIA 240M GT GPU and a quad-core CPU. If Medion could decide what the PC was built for, it could have done a better job at selecting the components… to ease the price. Video in the full post. [via Techfever]

FCC approves trio of handsets

The FCC just gave their nod of approval to three new handsets that will make their mark via T-Mobile USA, featuring 850/1900 GSM and WCDMA 1700 connectivity. They are the Nokia RM-509 (also known as the 3710a), Nokia RM-511 and Motorola T56KV1. The first of the three is actually the Nokia 3710 clamshell, specially built for North America, featuring a QVGA internal display, S40 UI, GPS navigation, a 3.2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity and 3G support. Up next is the Nokia RM-511 clamshell, where details are as scarce as hair on Kojak’s shiny head. Last but not least is the Motorola T56KV1 which also has a good chance of being the Android-powered Morrison, since both models feature Wi-Fi connectivity and 3G (1700MHz) support.
