We’ve been calling it Fennec for such a long time, and in case you’re not sure what we’re talking about, it’s the mobile version of Firefox, that should be released in the near future. In terms of its name, word is out that it will be called “Firefox”, nothing more. So maybe we can ditch the “Firefox Mobile”, “Mobile Firefox” names and just continue to pray that it will be released sooner rather than later. [From Uberphones]

Format conversion is one of the most annoying thing when it comes to video recording, so JVC built the GY-HM100U with native recording in the format that Final Cut uses (a flavor of Quicktime) so that users can copy and edit files right away. Videos will be recorded on two SDHC flash cards and the 1080p resolution captured by the 3-CCD sensor should make this a prosumer camcorder. As for the price, expect it to cost close to $4000. More details on the JVC GY-HU product page. What about Adobe Premiere? Well, they’ll have to install the right codec at least&hellip

Endless Ideas (a Dutch company) has just announced that the next generation BeBook will be demonstrated in March at Cebit (March 6th) and at the Salon du Livre (Paris, March 13th-18th). While the physical design is not known yet, here are the highlights:
- WIFI and/or 3G connectivity
- TouchScreen Navigation
- Wireless RSS support
- Support for content from multiple formats/providers
In other news, Hearst is also going to launch a wireless e-Reader. Hearst’s business model will be to take a cut of the revenues from content sold for the device, which is not unlike what console makers are doing.
This morning, we just published about a possible Kindle 3 that is rumored to show up for Q4 2009. More eBook Stories

Yesterday, we saw this video that was meant to be a Blackberry advertisement at some point, but RIM never gave the green light, judging it “too aggressive”, we guess. Anyhow, it’s an interesting video to watch. It basically shows a “Blackberry” bullet smashing into an “apple”. The meaning is clear… except that the “bullet” was supposed to be the Blackberry Storm, which in the real world, kind of suck compared to an iPhone.

This is an Asus S101
The Commercial Times (in Chinese) reported that Asus is about to unleash is Eee PC Shell in April. At the moment, little is known about the Netbook except a few critical highlights: it will be thinner, more powerful and have a longer battery life than the Asus S101. “How much?” you might ask. Well the same $480-$580 range that high-end netbooks cost today. Sounds good to us…

Taiwanese website Digitimes believes that a larger sized Kindle is (still) in the works and should appear at the end of 2009. the site cites “industry sources” (understand manufacturing contractors and components providers) and mentions “touch functions”, which hints to a touch-display - that would be a first for an e-paper device, we think. The small display and the lack of color are two common reasons why customers think that eBooks aren’t ready yet.

Sometimes, you might want to hear the TV from a distance, but without increasing the overall volume too much - may be because you’re in the kitchen, or because your spouse is sleeping next to you or because grandpa is the only one who needs a sound boost - these are examples from the ELPA website (Japanese). This a remote control (they call it “universal remote”, but we’re having a hard time seeing the universal part) that includes a wireless speaker. The idea is that a remote is always nearby, so integrating a proximity speaker just made sense. Clearly not everyone needs one, but we thought that you should know that it’s out there…

Shortly after the Blackberry Bold went on sale in Japan, DoCoMo had to pull it off the shelves after being alerted by early adopters of a possible overheating problem. Of the 4000 units that were sold, DoCoMo has been notified of about 30 complaints regarding such issues. While this might not seem like much (that’s bad enough for these customers though), DoCoMo has taken the cautious approach and halted the sale, pending an investigation from Blackberry . Service is everything in Japan, after all. At the moment, Blackberry has been able to rule the battery out (meaning that phones should not explode) and says that this issue is limited to Japanese Bold phones.

Just when Netbook manufacturers are trying to move to larger display size (11″, 12″, 13″) and add a bit more graphics power to their offerings, Fidelity comes in with a first-generation Netbook type computer at the discounted price of $199. Other than its 1.5lbs weight, there’s nothing groundbreaking except the price (7″ display, USB, Ethernet, WiFi, 2GB of memory, Linux), but that’s the whole point! An Asus Eee 701 costs around $259 today.
The Fidelity VPC should be available next month. So what’s your take? Do you prefer a higher price for a more capable and comfortable netbook or do you like the VPC’s specifications and the price drop?
