Yuruppy, Low Maintenance Rub Only

You do not need to feed or take Yuruppys virtual pets for a virtual walk, they only require to be “digitally” fondled. Sounds strange? Users have to complete 14 mini games with their puppy, kitten, or chicken by controlling them with their fingers using the touch screen. Yuruppy is manufactured by Tomy Takara and retails for $21, or $38 for the deluxe edition equipped with a larger screen.

Ubergizmo media partner of DEMO 09

Today, DEMO 09 revealed the lineup of new technology companies that will launch new products during six-minutes live stage demonstrations starting this Monday in Palm Desert.

For the first time Chris Shipley will co-present the show with Matt Marshall from Venture Beat, the new co-executive producer who will run the show in 2010. I have a great respect for Chris Shipley’s talent to discover innovative new tech products and an admiration for her focus and hard work that helped numerous entrepreneurs to succeed. I am a bit sad to see her pass the torch, but I trust her ability to select the best successor.

Ubergizmo is a media partner of DEMO and our readers get a $600 discount on the DEMO registration, click here to register. The conference starts on Sunday, March 1 in Palm Desert, if you cannot attend, follow our live coverage.

Various products launching at DEMO 09 include:

  • a portable device that works as both a netbook and a touchscreen tablet;
  • a network of small, battery powered wireless cameras that stream video directly to the Internet;
  • a commerce-based networking solution that allows subscribers to send various forms of content via Bluetooth;
  • a personal email assistant to initiate and sort through emails and parse conversations, files, images, media, dates and places;
  • a next-generation community management application
  • an intelligent, Web-based mortgage buying subscription service

Motorola i465 Press Pictures Leaked

Motorola has certainly been floundering due to the global financial crises of late. That being said, it has still managed to come up with its iDEN phone that has a full QWERTY keyboard. Press release pictures of this phone have conveniently appeared online, so you’ll probably want to take a good look at the device. Specifications are nothing to shout about with a VGA camera, Bluetooth 2.0 and of course, iDEN PTT (Push-to-Talk) which is certainly quite fun. Will carriers want to pick up this phone? From Uberphones. Photo from Mobilereview

Beautiful Bluetooth Headset by Ilshat Garipov
I do not like Bluetooth headsets but this one is beautiful. Ilshat Garipov took his inspiration from the formation of a water droplet and the device comprises a single button for receiving and ending calls. I want one!

Dwindling iMac Availability Hints to Upcoming Refresh

Internet stores (MacMall, OnSale, and ClubMac.) are reporting that high-end iMacs stocks are becoming sparse, and it is everyone’s guess that this is a sign that a new model will come out soon. Better yet, Amazon itself has removed the previous model from its catalog completely. If you have followed the rumor mill recently, you know that a new high-end iMac with an NVIDIA chipset is expected.

TANDBERG PrecisionHD 720p Webcam

TANDBERG PrecisionHD 720p Webcam

It’s pretty hard for a webcam to get any buzz these days, but the design of the Tandberg PrecisionHD Camera and its HD (720p) capabilities with autofocus have caught our attention. In addition to its optical abilities, at least on the paper, the camera also has noise a canceling microphone. Now, you should know that you need serious upload bandwidth to use the TANDBERG PrecisionHD at its full potential: the 720p audio/video stream requires 1.5Mbps and if you have a kick-ass upload speed, there’s even an “unlimited″ video quality that will be capped by your upload bandwidth (and the camera itself, obviously).

It’s optimized for Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Release 2, but what we really want to know is how well it will work with Skype or MSN? (Also, take a look at our Quickcam Pro 9000 review)

LG Officially Stays in the Plasma TV Market

LG Officially Stays in the Plasma TV Market

There were a number of reports this morning about LG quitting the Plasma TV business, but when T3 asked LG UK’s George Mead, the official answer is clear: LG has “no intention to withdraw from the Plasma TV market”. Mr. Mead goes further by saying: “we have recently implemented a bespoke strategy to promote and market Plasma TVs here in the UK. The development of new technologies including our THX certification is a strong indication of the growth opportunities for Plasma TVs in the UK market.”

That’s the news of the day at least. An LG Vice President was quoted saying: “if we cannot draw growth strategy, we would make the decision to withdraw within the year″.

BlackBerry 9630 Niagara World Edition at Verizon

BlackBerry 9630 Niagara World Edition at Verizon

It looks like the Blackberry Niagara’s model number will be 9630 and it will be a “world edition” because it will support CDMA and GSM with variants of 3G for both standards. The big issue, however, is that it won’t have WiFi. Yes it sucks, and we still wonder why Verizon keeps castrating cool phones, but hey, we’re on T-Mobile anyway. Takeway:

  • GSM/CDMA 3G phone (EVDO RevA, UMTS) “world edition”
  • 3.2 Megapixel camera (in the consumer version)

$1 Per Watt at First Solar

$1 Per Watt at First Solar

First Solar is saying that their “manufacturing cost is now below $1 per watt“, which is a huge milestone. Not so long ago costs were above $3/Watt! But as treehugger points out, installation costs play a big role in the overall cost and should not be forgotten. It’s just very cool to see the kind of progress that have been made in the past 5 years and imagine that the trend will continue over the next 5 years. More solar energy posts.
